Museum

The history of the Georg-Speyer-Haus was honored in 1996 when a museum room was set up in the institute. Klaus Görner M.A. has taken over the conception and furnishing of the displays with documents and exhibits from the history of the institute.

The exhibition was created with the kind support from Behringwerke AG, Hoechst AG, the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut in Langen, the Institute for the History of Frankfurt and the Museum Angewandte Kunst and the Historical Museum Frankfurt am Main, as well as the City of Frankfurt am Main.

Adjacent to the exhibition room is a historic laboratory with period furniture preserved from the construction phase of the GSH (1906). In the room that once belonged to the chemical department, amongst other things, work on the development and testing of Salvarsan products had been carried out. Paul Ehrlich inquired here daily about the status of the research work.

In the former building of the Institute for Experimental Therapy there is a representative memorial room that was inaugurated in 1924 in honour of the physician and Nobel Laureate Paul Ehrlich (1854-1915). The approximately 23 square meter room was designed in the Empire style. The ceiling and walls cladding are made in red-brown polished cherry wood.

Due to the ongoing scientific activity in the Georg-Speyer-Haus, a visit to the historical rooms is only possible after prior arrangement and registration. Please send us an e-mail to info@georg-speyer-haus.de to coordinate and arrange an appointment.
